Diagnosis
I will continue to write about the past couple of weeks, as it was full of lessons, insights and frustrations. However I do want to share my diagnosis with you as many of you are reaching out, concerned and curious. I am so grateful for all of your support and love!
On January 31st, I received a diagnosis of Primary Mediastinal B-cell Lymphoma (PMBCL). This is relatively rare B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma that comprises about 3% of all non-Hodgkin lymphomas. It occurs most commonly in people in their 20’s and 30’s, and typically occurs more in women. The pathologists are still looking at my biopsy to narrow the diagnosis and I’ll also need to do a few more tests before the diagnosis is complete.
The good news is that it is highly treatable and doesn’t require surgery. Tomorrow I meet with a Hematologist-Oncologist to hear about the next steps and possible treatment plan. The medical approach is typically 6 rounds x 3 weeks of chemotherapy, and there are two standard protocols that I will discuss with the oncologist. Stay Tuned.
